Now that the nutrition challenge is over I have to speak my mind about something on which many have mixed opinions. The cheat meal!
In my opinion the cheat meal is great for a certain type of person's progress and detrimental to the progress of another type of person.
There is some evidence suggesting that a cheat meal can aid you physiologically. Some studies seem to show that a cheat meal can boost energy and leptin insulin levels so that you are primed for losing body fat and full of energy to start a new week.
However, what a cheat meal does psychologically can vary from person to person. And what you think is going to effect you big time in the long run. The simple truth is that your thoughts are your reality.
Some people can enjoy a cheat meal guilt free and jump back on the healthy eating wagon feeling primed and ready to rock. Others feel massive amounts of guilt and the desire for bad food only increases after cheating.
Which type of person you are will ultimately determine how you should handle your intake of less than optimal nutrition sources.
Do some soul searching and you will figure out how to approach healthy eating for the rest of your life.
One thing is for certain, relationships are always more important than food choices. If you have a serious allergic reaction to certain foods that is one thing. However, if you choose not to eat a home cooked meal at a get together with friends and family because you want to "stay clean" that is crossing the line into an eating disorder type of behavior (orthorexia).
Staying healthy isn't just about what you eat, it is surrounding yourself with people who love you as well. In my opinion, eating a home cooked meal, made with love is about as paleolithic as you can get!
